This Winter, something exciting is happening in Paris: the largest gathering of world leaders to ever address global warming at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP21).
What is not exciting is the fact that one crucial factor is missing from their agenda – the ocean.
Since the Industrial Revolution, it has absorbed nearly half of all human-produced CO2, helping to reduce the rate of greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere. Scientists warn, however, that the ocean may soon reach a tipping point.
As Mission Blue founder and legendary oceanographer Sylvia Earle says, “no ocean, no life. No blue, no green. If not for the ocean there would be no climate to discuss, nor anyone around to debate the issues.” Mission Blue is a global partnership dedicated to raising public awareness about ocean health and inspiring the world to protect 20% of the Ocean by 2020.
Join us in giving our precious Ocean a voice and speak up in the #OceansForClimate campaign, a singular call to have the ocean included in the climate discussion. While the ocean isn’t on the official agenda, we can still capitalize on the high profile talks in Paris and get the ocean in the climate conversation.
