A Conversation with Jenefer & Melissa Palmer

Did you know that OSEA is mother and daughter founded? To celebrate Mother’s Day and the magic of mother-daughter duos, we sat down with our founders, Jenefer and Melissa Palmer, to learn about their unique relationship, the lessons they’ve learned while building OSEA, their absolute favorite products and what they’re gifting this Mother’s Day.

Jenefer: “Working with my daughter all these years has been so fulfilling. Melissa has taught me that creative minds need business brains. We both bring such unique perspectives to the table. What makes it easy is there’s built-in trust between mother and daughter.”

Melissa: “Sometimes we have such different opinions. But, over the years I’ve learned how to calm my teenage inner-voice and see my mom for who she is: a creative visionary.”

Jenefer: “The best part of working with Melissa is having an excuse to call her multiple times a day! We’re so obsessed and passionate about the brand we’ve built together.”

Melissa: “We’ve learned how to create boundaries so we can enjoy time off outside of work. We love long walks on the beach and swimming in the ocean.”

Jenefer: “My advice to other mother and daughter teams is to communicate openly and honestly. Set clear roles for one another, but also stay flexible. Never lose sight of the deep, unwavering love and respect that you have for each other.”

Melissa: “My mom and I really honor the transitions and milestones of this journey. My advice is to take time to appreciate the highs and learn from the challenges of growing a business. And most importantly, have fun.”

About family, favorites and celebrating Mother’s Day

Jenefer: “As a family we’ve always prioritized our health and wellness. Our products are a reflection of this. My current favorite, Collagen Dream Night Cream was created to reduce the effects of stress on skin during its nightly repair phase. My skin looks amazing in the morning and what a great surprise it was that it works so well on reducing the look of my dark circles."

Melissa: “Our Hyaluronic Sea Serum is my desert island product! My skin drinks it up, I have to take it everywhere I go.”

Jenefer: “This Mother’s Day I’m gifting my daughter-in-law our Glow & Go Facial Set. She’s such a wonderful mother to my spirited 2-year-old granddaughter and she doesn’t really have time to go get a facial, so she can use this set to bring the spa home!”

Melissa: “I’m going to gift my best friend, who’s a new mom, our Golden Glow Body Set. It has everything you need for a relaxing, moisturizing head-to-toe spa night at home!"

Jenefer: “As a mother, grandmother and business owner, I’m going to celebrate Mother’s Day with a trip to Murrieta Hot Springs Resort for a rejuvenating spa day.

Fun fact: I conceived of the idea for OSEA while I was the Spa Director at Murrieta Hot Springs in the 80s, so it has a very special place in my heart. The newly-opened and renovated resort also features OSEA facials!”

Melissa: I’m making dinner for my mom and our family. One of the dishes will be my Mom’s best-ever homemade lentils! And of course, a selection of her favorite dark chocolates for dessert.
