Some products are created in response to trends. Others are born from a need that becomes impossible to ignore. Dream Lip Mask was the latter.
Overnight treatments have long been a cornerstone of face and body care, designed to work in sync with the skin’s natural repair process while you sleep. Lips, however, have rarely been given the same consideration, despite being thinner, drier and more delicate than the rest of the skin. During sleep the body enters rejuvenation mode—but lips lack oil glands, making them especially prone to dehydration, and visible signs of aging.
“My lips get dry overnight and by morning, my lip lines look worse. I realized my lips needed extra help,” says OSEA founder and Chief Seaweed Officer, Jenefer Palmer. “But the world certainly did not need another ordinary lip mask...”
That realization led to a bigger question: why had lip care remained focused almost entirely on surface hydration, while the rest of skincare evolved toward targeted, age-defying treatments?
A Gap in Lip Care
It’s one of our core values as a brand committed to sustainability since 1996 to only create a product when it’s truly bringing something innovative to the table. The goal was not to make a heavier balm or a trend-driven product, it was to address a clear gap in lip care.
“At OSEA, we create intentional products that align with our holistic approach to self-care,” explains Nikki Haber, Associate Director, Product Development. “There are plenty of lip products that feel nice, but very few that are designed to visibly improve the look of lip lines.”

Why Bio-Retinol
Traditional retinol can make a profound difference in skin—if, and that’s a big “if”, you’re able to tolerate it. It’s often simply too harsh. Following the success of bio-retinol across The Dream Collection, the team explored whether this gentler retinol alternative could be formulated to work effectively for lips as well.
“The challenge was finding the right balance between visible results and moisturizing dry lips,” Nikki explains.
The bio-retinol in Dream Lip Mask is an extract derived from Bidens pilosa plant. It acts as a safer, stable alternative to smooth and soften lips without irritation.
