Nestled on a 400-acre, oak-filled estate in the heart of the Santa Monica Mountains, Calamigos Ranch Resort & Spa has been reimagining California living since 1937. Think scenic ranch grounds, peaceful canyon paths and restorative experiences rooted in nature. Arguably Malibu's best-kept secret (and a highly sought-after wedding destination), there's so much to discover at this picturesque property and its exclusive Beach Club.
Owned by the Gerson family for generations, Calamigos shares our deep appreciation for Malibu and the natural beauty that makes it so special. Recently, we had the pleasure of gathering for an intimate wellness retreat in celebration of OSEA's 30th anniversary. It was an opportunity to honor the place where both of our stories began, connect with our community and experience the magic of Calamigos firsthand.
From indulgent OSEA spa treatments to unforgettable moments spent together, here are six reasons we're already dreaming of our next visit.
1. The Accommodations
Tucked among lush greenery, the cottages, bungalows, suites and estate rooms feel like private sanctuaries. Think outdoor showers, freestanding soaking tubs, cozy fire pits and secluded patios surrounded by nature. Inside, beautifully appointed interiors and spa-like bathrooms invite you to settle in and stay awhile. Locally sourced snacks from the gardens and Calamigos Ranch vineyard make the experience feel even more special.
2. The Food
Led by culinary director Rosie Mitchell, The Ranch Club Restaurant features California cuisine made with fresh, seasonal ingredients sourced from the property's own organic farm. For more casual bites, Gentry Market quickly became one of our favorites. We loved the artisanal coffee, strawberry matcha lattes and freshly pressed juices, and we're still dreaming of some of the best wood-fired pizza we've ever tasted.
3. The Pools & The Beach Club
Access to the Calamigos Beach Club is worth the booking alone. A complimentary Volkswagen shuttle whisks you away from the ranch to a semi-hidden stretch of sand just off Pacific Coast Highway. This seaside retreat features oceanfront dining, paddleboard lessons and chaise lounges perfect for soaking up the Malibu sunshine.
Back at the ranch, we also enjoyed lounging by the cabana-lined pools, including one reserved for adults. Just steps above the main Resort Pool, a new pool house bar serves lunch and SoCal-inspired libations in a space that pays homage to the ranch's history.
4. Spa Calamigos
Led by our friend and spa director, Marine Blanchett, Spa Calamigos offers a thoughtfully curated menu of holistic treatments designed to restore balance and encourage relaxation. From red light and Himalayan salt therapies to Reiki sessions, saunas and cold plunges, every experience invites you to slow down and reconnect.
Among the highlights of the spa menu are the OSEA Malibu Glow and Sea of Life Facials, as well as the Calamigos Signature Massage featuring our bestselling Undaria Algae™ Body Oil and Anti-Aging Body Balm. The partnership is rooted in our shared reverence for Malibu's beauty, commitment to clean ingredients and holistic approach to wellness and self-care.
5. The Nature Walks
One of our favorite parts of the retreat was simply exploring the beautiful grounds. With acres of native plants, towering oak trees and hiking trails, there are endless opportunities to connect with nature. We especially loved meeting some of the ranch's resident animals, including miniature horses, Highland cattle and free-roaming chickens.
For those who never travel without their four-legged companions, Calamigos also welcomes dogs, with select accommodations featuring private courtyards.
6. The Ranch Life
Back on the ranch, we enjoyed picnics, pickleball and sound baths. It was the perfect opportunity to slow down, recharge and celebrate 30 years of OSEA together.
