From dry to oily and combo to sensitive, everyone has a different skin type that requires specialized care. The characteristics of your skin will determine how it reacts to different products and skincare routines. What works for someone with oily skin may not work for someone with sensitive skin.
So, have you been asking yourself, “What type of skin do I have?” Fear not! First, take our Skin Quiz to guide you through specific skin concerns to create the best skincare routine. Then, read through our guide to learn more about each specific skin type and what products best support each one.
A Guide to Different Skin Types
Oily
Your skin is oily if it produces more sebum than it needs to stay moisturized. You may experience breakouts and clogged pores and your skin may appear shiny or feel greasy to the touch.
Washing your face with a gentle, yet efficient cleanser will eliminate excess dirt and oil. Start with a clarifying cleanser like our antioxidant-rich Ocean Cleansing Mudd and follow up with our Hyaluronic Sea Serum to balance your skin’s natural moisture levels. Spot-treat breakouts with our Blemish Balm and apply our clarifying Essential Corrective Complex to oily zones.
Dry
At the other end of the spectrum is dry skin, which produces insufficient sebum to stay moisturized. Your skin may feel tight or itchy, become flaky, and have a dull or rough appearance.
Washing dry skin regularly helps eliminate dead cells, so start your routine with our purifying Ocean Cleansing Milk to wash off makeup and impurities without stripping the moisture barrier. Layer on our Hyaluronic Sea Serum on slightly damp skin to help retain moisture, then use our Advanced Protection Cream for a dose of plant-based bio retinol, and apply our seaweed-infused Dayglow Face Oil® for extra radiance.
Combination
What is combination skin? Simply put, it’s skin that’s dry in some places and oily in others. Caring for it properly comes down to providing enough moisture to hydrate without causing breakouts.
To care for your combination skin, wash with our nutrient-rich Ocean Cleanser, then balance your moisture levels using our Hyaluronic Sea Serum. Apply our Seabiotic® Water Cream for deep hydration where your skin needs it most.
Normal
If you’re fortunate to have skin that’s neither too oily nor too dry, you likely have normal skin. You may find that it’s fairly easy to maintain, but cleanse and moisturize regularly to keep it looking and feeling its best.
Start with our Ocean Cleanser to wash away oil, dirt, and makeup, then hydrate with our Hyaluronic Sea Serum. Finish with our Atmosphere® Protection Cream, a lightweight formula that works well under sunscreen and makeup.
Additional Skincare Tips
While cleansing and moisturizing are the foundations of caring for any skin type, you might want to incorporate additional steps into your routine depending on your individual goals. For instance, all skin types can benefit from seaweed-infused nourishment in our Sea Minerals Mist, especially after spending plenty of time in the sun.
Our Ocean Eyes® Age-Defying Serum uses seaweed, caffeine, and peptides to awaken tired eyes and reduce the appearance of dark circles and puffiness, while our Advanced Repair Eye Cream rejuvenates the skin around the eyes. For pampering at night, nourish skin in its nightly repair phase using our Dream Night Cream — the first overnight moisturizer clinically proven to reduce the effects of stress on the skin while you catch some Zs.
Lastly, most skin types can benefit from exfoliation 2-3 times per week, or as needed. All skin types — except sensitive ones — can try our Seaglow Overnight Serum AHA Treatment or our Seaglow Resurfacing Scrub to promote cell renewal.
